PostSubject: New Riding Fees   Thu Jan 15, 2009 9:12 pm

Bellman posted this on SBB.

Folks at a called meeting this day..the Harlan Co. Fiscal Court did turn over control of the Blk Mtn Off Road Park/Area..and the verda event field to the Park Board.

A fee of 35.00 per yr will be the cost to ride the 7200 acres of the park.

When does this start..don't know yet.

Fee to use the field...don't know yet.

Age cutoff to ride park...don't know yet.

Tag person or Toy.......don't know yet.

This has nothing to do with the Ridge Runners Rides, nor the Trail Head town of Evarts, Ky.

For any information/comments about all of the above questions please contact board secretary Susan at:
shaught@harlanonline.net

Thats a bummer! Its not to expensive compared to windrock, but its a lot further drive.
I would like to have ridden it once before deciding. I wonder if it will affect the numbers of people they usually get from a long way off.
If they all start charging , some of us would have to choose which one or two we can afford to pay the fee for and avoid the others. Wonder if Pickett will be next?

This is only for 'on-park' rides. The Ridge Runners have other land to ride on with permission so you can still ride with one of their guides.
These fees were suggested by the newly appointed (by the land owner) land manager over the park property. This person (Ken Crider) is also part of the Mtn Crawlers (non-atv) Club that is against atv's having run of the park and limiting their trail usage.

Get with Bell County Outdoorsman, near Middlesboro, and you can ride there for FREE also. He's a great guy to talk to and their park was just opened last year and is growing.

$35 a year is a fantastic price. WITC here charges $20 a day for riders and another $5 or $10 for passengers.

Wooly's charges $10 a day per person.

$35.00 per year doesn't sound out of line to me either. Two Days of riding at Windrock or Brimstone will cost about the same amount.

As far as Pickett goes, it is mostly private land and the majority is owned by Monticello Paper Co. I don't think that they could get Pickett closed up enough to properly manage it. Too many ways into the trails and almost impossble to enforce.

Just My Opinion.

No, it's still very affordable. However, with a Rock Crawler club member overseeing the park, you can almost guarantee the trails will soon have deep ruts, deep mudholes, and torn all to heck.

There is more than one Black Mountain (Area). We have an area in Crossville called Black Mountain and there is one in Kentucky. We usually refer to the one near Crossville as Crab Orchard because that is the town it is near. It is only about 9 miles from the Motel you all stayed at Drew.
