PostSubject: Riding In North AL??   Wed Jan 28, 2009 10:17 pm

OK, so I finaly own my very own ATV and I have never been riding anywhere except on my family's land. I have never really been on a big group ride. I am looking for places to ride near New Market, AL (North AL area). Any suggestions??

I live in Fayetteville( just over the border). We ride Iron Gap near Winchester, Skyline, and Some place near Gurley AL.

Actually going riding this saturday Near Birmingham AL with some friends from Huntsville.

And there is a big ride scheduled for Feb 7th at Bryants cove( near Monteagle, TN)

Let me know sometime if you'd like to go riding. I or my group can show you around some places. You most definately don't want to ride alone, especially on your first trip.

Wilburns Outdoors has a place just south of Cullman and Stoney Lonesome should be opening soon.

Wilborns is a good place, a lot local for us in and around Alabama than many places in North TN. Haven't been to Stoney Lonesome ORV area( they keep pushing back their opening dates). Both of these are located in Central Alabama.

But as for local areas in "North Alabama" there are a few. I've found some, some are open strange seasons though.

Skyline is open from October to may, while Bingham and Coalmine( near Gurley) I'd stay away from during hunting season. Iron Gap (Also near Estil Fork) is open year round, but i try to stay out of there during deer season.

I used to ride cowan all the time, that was where I "cut my teeth" atving. Wish it was open though. Some hunting clubs and TWRA closed majority of it down to riding.

We also Ride Viola, and Bryants cove, Which are a little distance away from me, but not near as far as say Pickett or Windrock.

if you haven't rode much head off to Prentice Cooper nothing there is really rough and you'll log some seat time, plus the views are awesome
