I haven't rode the 550 ,I have a 850 and you can't find a better ride Cool Every thing I have heard it rides the same as the 850 . Comming from a brute you might want to go with the 850 MORE POWER Laughing

Jug head is right is right.....stock to stock the 850 Polaris will smoke the Brute....not real bad....but it will do pretty good. I think the 850's are BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Twisted Evil

i hope the sale of your brute goes well........but i would personally NOT suggest going from a bigger ride to a smaller ride.......you will NOT be happy.......once again.....this is my 2cents.....wish the best of luck!!!! this has nothing to do with a brand.......i have a BF......would ride a new 850 quickly......but not a 550.......good luck~

I have to agree with BigDaddy, I don't think you'll be happy droping in power even though the 550 should have enuff power to trail ride, your just used to more power. My .02s

I was looking at the Horse Power ratings for the 550 XP which it says its 40 HP. I rode the 550 at the dealership and it felt pretty good, but you cant really tell much riding it on the gravel parking lot. I also rode the 850 but really didn't pay that much attention to the power I was really trying to get a feel of how good it rode. I can tell that both seem to have a smoother ride than the Brute. I have a Polaris Ranger and you cant beat the ride on that thing, real smooth.

Also seen where the Brute 750 has 49 HP, Do you think that 9 HP would really make that much difference just trail riding? I know that the Brute will have more bottom end and mid range torque.

I also noticed that the 850 XP was harder to turn the 550 XP I guess that added weight of the motor was the cause.

I really wanted to get back down to a single cylinder mainly to cut done on the heat that the V Twins put out, I know the Brutes get very hot riding in the summertime around your legs. The 850 XP's may not be as bad yall let me know...
Thanks for your inputs keep them coming...

I just got the 850 xp with eps and it doesnt run nearly as hot as my 07 800 did. Cant beat the ride Imo. Had a 500 H.O for the wife and that thing would hang no problem until high end with the 700 I had. Good luck with what ever you get

The only place I feel heat is on the back fender under the rack The heat shields do a good job getting it out the back of the bike. Pluss the 70 mph wind running down the trail helps too Laughing

Glad you got the 850 it is one sweet ride Thumb Hold on tight when you let it rip on the trails it has plenty of power to sling you around . THE STOCK TIRES SUCK PUT SOME BIG HORNIES ON IT AND IT WILL REALY GRIP . wheelie
