What does it take to do half way decent in a race like this ?
What kind of Bike ?
I keep thinking the ,lower the better ,for the off camber hills with turns on them.
Is that true ?
Then of course the mud holes , any rider with small tires could get stuck.
Im thinking middle ground , like 25"s .
Anybody here want to comment more of the ends and outs , im supposed to attend my first hare scrambler race soon, and im scared.
Totally intimadated, anyhow i race my buddies alot and usually win .But the reason i win is total disregard for safety. Its bad .
Now id like to think in a longer race i could be alittle more safe.
I need advice as im so Green.
Got 6000 atv miles under my belt now logging about a thousand miles a month, deffinatly not all trail miles. But better than nothing .
Brimstone scared the crap out of me, at least on a couple runs where my back tire slid alittle more than intended and left me vulnerable to a 20 roll tumble .NO NO NO not again.
Any comments appreciated as i was hoping i could at least finish the race .

You might be able to do it on a sport quad if you have the right set-up. 23" tires on the front and 22" on the rear. Got to pace yourself. You have to be there at the end to win. With the payout they are having you will see alot of sponsored teams being there. It don't take long to rack up a few bucks on a race quad. I have seen where they are taking the Utility's and making them race ready. Something like a race Renagade might be the winner. scratch

So you would lower the utility quad ?
Get the centrer down a bit ? My Kawi rep said the 750 KQ would do awesome but first wed have to work on the suspension alot , he said it was to stiff for racing and he works alot of races.

Having rode old raptors i can attest there is no freaking way most any Utility quad could keep up on a normal trail the utility just wont cornor as fast, and the are way to top heavy , and actually just to heavy all to gether.

Id love to see some kind of race ready utility quad , what all would that intail ?

Beef up the power supply , i cant see a utility quad coming even close on any type of nornal track.
But maybe Brimstone is cooking up something meaner a trail where a uttility quad could shine.

Well i called Dudley the guy whi made the trail.
He said doable in sport quad but extremly rough , lots and lots of big loose rocks.
Monster deep ruts , extremly steep with loose rocks.
Pretty big logs.
Total rough endurance race.
Not to much deep mud but if its raining its gonna be real slick,
My take would be Sport quad for sure as most guys who are good can do just about anything on the sport quad or more then a utility.
I think this is gonna be onle wild race.

I put a set of Elka's on my 400ex and it made a world of difference on the handling and also the grip on the rear wheels. You wouldn't think that front shocks would make that big of difference on the rear wheels. You can look up under GNCC and see the race utilitly quads. You said if it rains it will make a difference. At Brimstone when the trails are dry then we don't have that much problems climbing but if they are wet its a whole different ball game.

I would take that event in my rzr, but my rzr breaks the rules because I have a lift on it. The mod exceptions for sxs as I read it is no motor swap and no suspension points changed. Well, I have a stock engine but also a 3" lift.. Does that disqualify me???? I would like very much just to do that run for fun. Would they let me?????????

I think you would be allowed to run .
I meen come on on all older rzr's you need either springs or lift.

One class encompassing all side x sides and driver skill levels.

No cc limit.

Unlimited modifications except the following:

Factory suspension mounting points must be used.
Original engine cases must be used, no motor swaps

Doesent that meenthe mounting point in the original place must be used .
In other words you cant have a rail buggy / rzr.
Thats how i take it

Been watching as many GNCC races as possible, where are the Four wheel drive vids ?
From what i see unless the track is absolutly insane burly its sport quad all the way.
Since all i have is a 750 KQ then ill be run slap over by nimble little sport quads.
Id like to either start running a sport quad or running a renegade .
Or running in the over 40 utility class , that would be ok.
For now just riding all the time and learning is all i can manage but i hope to race at least once or twice some day.

This track is not designed for sport quads. They made it really rough for SxS.

I'm going to let the Cat out of the Bag, here...

I am the events manager for PGI Media, who is putting on the Roundup and King of the Mountain.

I will try to answer anyone's questions as quickly as possible!

First, the question of lift kits: As long as you haven't welded on new suspension points or modified the frame, you are good to run. A bolt on lift is absolutely no problem.

We are changing the rules on tires sizes to 30" maximum, you might need 'em in the SXS race depending on the weather and how dry the trail is.

Difficulty: The course is challenging, but not impossible. I rode most of the course on a rental brute force with bald(ish) tires and was able to clear every obstacle and hill. There was one hill that only 2 SXS made it up - We will make that a downhill section in the SXS race.

If you come prepared and your machine is race raedy, you will have a great day of racing and will leave with a sense of accomplishment. If you or your machine is not ready for the toughest race in the US, it's going to be a long day and finishing is questionable.

We have some surprises planned that will make it a very unique race and will entertain the spectators as well.

And remember pure speed is not going to win this, perseverance is just as important. How hard are you willing to push yourself? This is what this race is about.

I wish I wasn't putting on the race, so I could race. I think it is one of the funnest courses I've ever been on.

I think you could, momentum and technique is key. The lift on the rzr is definitely beneficial, as it won't get hung up as easy. Then again the right driver can make everthing in a stocker also.
