No Oily residue and just about the right shade of brown.

Take out the spark plug, pull the motor over slowly with the starting cord with your fingertip over the spark plug hole, mostly covering it, and when you feel compression whoosh against your finger then let go the starting rope and you can set both tappets.

OK is this cool because im setting them right now.
id kinda like to know fo sho im TDC

Yea maybe you have a Lemon. Take it back to the dealer and tell them you want another one. You paid enough for it, they should do it.

Though id post this , the idle was seeming a good deal up.
I finally decided to clean the air filter . It looked real clean so i soaked it in cleaner and waited a bit mashed it around and then dinked it down in hot soapy water .
shoot a ton of crud came out .
I blow dried the filters after cleani8ng umm and put it all back together and the idle was ver noticable down.
So im guessing i had a dirty air filter all this time .
Next time you do a visual on yer air filter and think its clean ,,, think again ....

I know the best way to tell on the KQ 700's when it was time to clean the filter was

exactly that , a little backfire when you were letting off the throttle or going down hill using

engine braking . They tend to get a little harder to start , but they start so easily with the

F.I. that its sorta hard to tell about that .
