Is Earth Bridge the best way to real time track and go 3d ?
so much to learn so little time to learn it .
Help me out Dan

Every trail looks cool to but i guess we really dont need any of that .

I dont care that much about doing the mapping but id like to go 3d for some of the areas down in alabama where we are just starteing to poke around .

Seems like we could establish trails better if i had the lap top right there and live google earth showing my exact location and then i could aim better when putting in a totally new trail.

If i lived near pickett and all i proably would not even bother but down here besides aetna you got to make yer trails , and once made they are the best anyhow .
couple of my friends established a trail id love to show anyone who comes round its super cool and it does not trespass . It was really hard to connect , we spent alot of time on google earth looking at the area we needed to ride through , then it was just a matter of doing it .
but still we did it more or less blind .

Oh well the trails at the cove are all old old old so no worries there but i can see potential if i ever run out of finding new stuff.

So would every trail be good for dummies like me ?
I cant wait to get a normal gps and start checking some stuff out.
There are some major areas in Bama .

My GPS is the Garmin Colorda series. It will show you location in 3-D if you put it on that setting. I'd say that the Oregon will do the same.

Read about the micro wave based tracking systems , un real .
For foot ball games etc , can track precisly at 140 k per hour .
They put a chip in the players shin pads.

Hey DD, I've found that most of that 3rd/4th party software doesn't do what I wanted it to. You have to try it and see what it does. Most Garmin and Magellan units will work directly with GE. GE will record the tracking data.

If you want 3D, go for it. I have a client with a Zumo. It doesn't map, but has a very nice large 16:9 touch screen. It does a projection 3D very similar to GE. He uses it on a motorcycle to navigate by.

I find that 2D with a Topo is all I need. I turn off the Topo when I'm just using GPS as a navigation aid.

If you want precision, that'll cost you. Trimble makes a sub-meter remote unit that works with a PDA for ~$2500... super accurate GPS units with sub-centimeter accuracy cost 10-15K$ each. You also need to spend that much for ESRI software. Consumer grade is good enough for me.

BTW, one sample per second is all you can get from the satelites. That's why the microwave systems are needed for higher resolution data... but they will only cover very localized areas, i.e., line-of-sight.

Thanx Dan , Ive just spent the last hour looking at Pickett , mostly the places we used to hike to .
Have spent a ton of time hiking around Big South fork years ago.
Cant wait to ride in Pickett .

No way im spending any more chedder on some fancy GPS ill never be able to use anyhow.
Zumo looked cool , by client , what do you meen ?

GE on a lap top is pretty neat when we are riding ,in a truck, in the cove .

But if Im looking at it im missing the scenery.
Like to look at it when im back at home.

He came by here from out of state and I put my NCTM on his Zumo. The only one I ever seen. It is designed for the motorcyclist... very rugged... and pricy. He had Hatfield McCoy on it also. He and son rode Sundquist the very next day... his first time there... without guides of other info. From his email, thay had a very good ride... with no problems navigating.

I don't think anyone really has time to watch a GPS while riding an ATV. I know they don't have time if they are riding with me. You look at it when you stop.
