Loggers come under their own set of laws. JMHO, but everyone should be under the same law... but logging operations get a break in the regs. Who knows, a good lawyer with a civil rights issue just might be able to get this changed.

You are correct Dan, the loggers are covered by the same exclusions as Farmers....they are effectively Farming the timber from the land....not much you can do to Loggers without making the Farmers follow the same rules.

They logged in Pnentice cooper last year , that really helping the game huh.
Actually, logging does help the game population by providing more food and protection.

Please explain . What protection are you talking about ? rodents ?

The looging ive seen in Europe might help , but the areas im talking about are just like that mess you and i were looking at , at north side of Wind.
How does that help game ? more rodents ? so more snake food .
less deer and less turkey ...

Logging pretty much decimates the country side . The way its done here there aint nothing left .
We talked about it , sure they used to grow new pulp, now they leave so much overburden that even weeds wont grow.

Ok maybe weeds ,
if they would just run a mulcher over the area we could have way way less run off and new tree stands in a matter of years .
These days , much of it is not even re planted any more ...

It will grow back. Catoosa was decimated just before TWRA started it's purchases. It has recovered. But hey, let's come off the Logging Subject a little. This was a thread about OHV Riding and New Opportunties.

I hate name droppers... and he is NOT the Tenn. Gov. unless I've missed something along the way. TWRA has NO say... TDEC has NO say... Barry Summers has NO say... the Legislature and the Governor sets the rules/laws.

The bills need to be passed for ATVers statewide!!!

You know I was thinking about some things. What harm can TDEC do?

What state agency has given us anything at this point?

Not TWRA. They have Royal Blue but let me tell you something. There is more to Tennessee Riding than Royal Blue. Get out and ride some of these other area's and you will see what I am talking about.

Barry Sumners works for TWRA. He is the Chief of Planning and Federal Aid.

I did that because out of respect.....and to keep the debate from getting any hotter over here.

Understood.....seems to me that TWRA wants no new responsibilties with the program if it expands and the only way the will keep the existing going is if and only if the funding is continued at the existing levels.

It does look like TWRA wants to keep the existing funding. I doubt that happening.

JMHO... the way I read the legislation, if passed, will trump all the political jockeying. TDEC will oversee the state OHV program, with North Cumberland WMA being only one site in the statewide system.

I found this on SFWDA forum. Thought it was interesting to hear of a Pilot Program for Prentice Cooper by the DIvision of Forestry. Now remember that Division of Forestry is not TDEC nor TWRA. The are under the Department of Agriculture.

SFWDA wrote:

Attention Tennessee OHV enthusiasts

The Tennessee Off Highway Vehicle Association (TOHVA) is holding a reorganizational meeting and election of officers on Saturday January 16, 2010 at 5PM CST at the Shoney’s located at 1950 So. Church St, Murfreesboro, TN (I-24 exit 81B).

TOHVA was founded a little over a year ago as a user group to partner with the Tennessee State agencies to make the TN OHV program work. We have been working with the TN Department of Forestry and have an agreement in principle to do a pilot OHV area at Prentice Cooper State Forest. We have received approval from the Legislature to sell OHV license plates to raise funds but have not had the personnel to get the program started. We need your support if we are going to have a viable trail system in Tennessee, please come to this meeting and show your support.
