PostSubject: Maxxis Big Horn Tire Pressure   Mon Mar 08, 2010 12:14 pm

I have Maxxis Big Horn tires 26x9x12 front and 26x12x12 rear on stock rims on a 2007 Honda Rubicon. I have put about 1100 miles on these but can't seem to dial in the tire pressure that will give me the best traction and ride without ALOT and I mean ALOT of bounce. Has anyone else had any issue with this and how do I fix it? I really love everything about these tires except for the bounce issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and Thanks also for a GREAT site!!!

I would try to lower your air pressure. What are you running?

I've tried everything from 7psi down to 2.5 psi. It is better at the lower pressures (2.5) but I worry running them that low and the bounce is still there. The tires are also mounted correctly with the dot lined up with the valve stem.

Are your shocks adjusted too stiff?

I would run them within the range stated in your owner's manual.

I am running 4.5# in the rear and 5.0# in front. This is a bit higher than the manual states for my toy.

It sounds like your shocks are a bit stiff.

I have the stock (non-adjustable) shocks that came on the quad. I don't know if I just have a bad set of tires or what. Kinda of funny that no one else has any problems.

I have a bike that weighs about 900# when ready to ride (without my big ol butt on there), I have no bouncing issues, but I also have my shocks set up to deal with the rebound...

Maybe a heavier bike (or a "fluffy" wife riding on the back)...

Seriously, It could be the lack of rebound adjustment on a lighter bike with 6-ply tires causing the bounce.

No bent rim. Maybe I need to add some more weight to make everything work together properly. Thanks all for the time taken to reply.

Hard to explain , its a saying from the tree climbers forum.
Kinda like trolling for an answer to and obvious question .
Ive done that out of pure stupidity .
Im not a troll though .
Not saying this fellow is either , its trollish
.
Has anyone else here had a bouncy ride ?
On and atv and on bighorns .

Why yes we all have .
So at 2,5 pounds pressure its not good , and at 7.5 its not good .
Dan suggested an answer ?

Maybe im missing the point .
Rooster , if i am , please explain it to me

Or maybe it simple .... He has un- adjustable shocks ...
Bless my heart ,,,,,,,

I thought about the answer a lot ! Maybe he has some Chinese knock - offs !
Those would be bouncy as all get out and I heard there were a lot of them going around over at Nyroc ! Supposedly so bad and so many people were checking around a lot to get the real thing ! Now that's a Theory for ya

Something I never heard of before. I will have to check into the Chinese Knockoff theory.

I just remembered something.......I bought a set of Maxxis Tires for my truck last fall. Every Once in awhile I will get what I call a Bounce in the truck. It could be a bad tire.

So yes it is possible you have a Bad Bighorn Tire on your ATV. But never heard of anyone complaining before about that.

I'm sorry if this question sounds "stupid" to you. I guess the problem I have with the bounce is mostly when climbing rocks or rocky trails. Instead of grabbing the rocks and climbing over them, it wants to bounce, and bounce so badly that the tires come compleatly off of the ground, making me loose traction, momentum, and speed. You can all see how this can turn a good ride into a nightmare quickly! I'm just looking for suggestions from anyone that might of had this same problem and has now figured it out.

Man i really think you got the chinese knock offs , that would explain it all .
Where did you buy them and when .
You are far enough north for them to have made it your way.
ill ask Glenlivet about them .
Its not stupid , i see you are serious .

Ive never heard of this on Maxis big horns especially at 2.5 psi
