PostSubject: Torn inner boot , change entire axel question   Mon Mar 08, 2010 12:26 pm

Ii priced the boot and it was 60 bucks .
I found entire axels with new boots for 115 on e bay .
Last time i did the inner boot it was a pita , seems like i could get a spare axel or 3 and always have one ready to plug and play .
Ive heard of other guys doing this as well .
Instead of changing the boot they just quickly plug in the new axel .
What do yall think ?

On previous bikes I always just changed the boots when they torn. I just dont like the idea of pulling axles in and out all the time if you dont HAVE to. I think the ebay deal is ok and Id get em for spares but Id just change the boot for now. just my .02

Boots + lube are about $10 at your local auto parts outlet. They may have to order them special but will ususally have them the next day. The bands are about $5 per boot.

A tool to tighten the band will run about $15.

I keep extras just for emergencies...

Geeese I've been in the auto store 5 times today never even thought of asking them !!!! Its maintenance week for all 12 trucks so Dan I will ask tomorrow ! For sure !
I'd proably need to bring in a boot as they couldn't even find the right oi filter for a 5.9 today

YEAH HE WANTED 109 .00 ........

I dont know where you get boots for 10 bucks Dan 20 was as cheap as i could find .
but i got me 4 brand new ones across the back and new breaks installed , including trip to store for 30 mill socket- 4 hours .
Saved 200 , but the math says i should just get the axels just to have a spare set for quick repair...
Seriously let me know where you find the boot for 10 bucks .
