PostSubject: Tigertail?   Mon Oct 04, 2010 10:29 pm

Has anyone seen these in action? I visited their site. tigertail.com And found the testimonials convincing. More times than nought i have to tow someone ( they usually get stuck, but so have I).

I just ordered one of these and the mount for my can-am. hopefully i will have it in a week or so.
I know i probably could have bought a winch for the rear, but i hate wiring, and hate having to stow a muddy tow-rope even more.

So hopefully i will be able to test it out soon. Soon as I get it, i will post pics.

What's the difference from that and a winch?

Its not powered. Its just a tow rope that self retracts into the unit like you see in a dog leash commercial.
You pull it out to the end and then it begins towing. Its strong and convenient but its to help the other guy get out.
You can pull yourself out with a front mounted winch if you use a snatch block and maybe without it if you are not stuck too bacly. Run the cable beneath the vehicle and secure to a tree behind you. The snatch block doubles the pulling power of the winch if you have enough line to reach the tree and block and then to the rear of the ATV.
Easier just to never ride alone(:

Winches really are meant to pull from the front. You can fray the cable running underneath your atv. Plus it is a lot easier for me to just pull out( utilize low gear to pull)when a tow strap is attached to the rear.

Funny thing, it came today and I ordered it thursday night. Talk about fast shipping.

I opened it up and looked at the parts. Looks very heavy duty, the mounting plate is close to a 1/2 inch thick and the actual tiger tail seems to be made up of quality components.

Now i got to install it( this weekend) and hopefully get to try it out sometime.

Just need someone to get stuck on the 30th. lol

Oh, i think i won't wear it out, but it will be getting good use. i would post pics, but my atv is at my dad's and i'm still here without a tow vehicle. I have more land i can ride on at dads( least close to him).

Wish i had bought one sooner( could have usd it to pull Jason(NO4NCRP) out.

I would have at least helped me be able to tie to you and winch myself and you to a tree.

I got it so i don't have to carry a muddy tow strap in my nice clean box. Razz

Plus added bonus has a 1.25 reciever hitch, and 2 extra hook points.

I'll be taking photos tomorrow, hopefully post them soon.

Well, tried it out the 30th. ( rooster volunteered)

Backed up to him, Pulled tow rope out and he hooked it to his front bumper, Pulled him out like it was nothing.

Thing has about 14 ft of tow rope, which you have to pull it out completely and taught, before you can pull anyone out.

Works great, Now i have to clean it all off before i can get pics.
