We all use GMRS. They come in pairs and are less than $100...

http://www.amazon.com/Midland-AVPH1-Open-Helment-Headset/dp/B000C9I14Q

Get the Open Face one. The Microphone on it is a Boom Type and makes it easier to position close to your mouth inside your Helmet.

I have 2 of those units and they work well. Just make sure you align the arrows when plugging them in and you will not have any probelms.

Oh and keep them away from CanAmChris. He is a magnet for destruction for these things Very Happy

I thought about buying a hand held in case of emergency, but it seams anymore only truckers have CB's, so I personally didn't think it would be worth it.

as on the other hand Shortwave at least maybe somebody would hear you as they carry a lot further

Roster & Dan Thanks, we have a set that should be here at the end of the week.......after doing much reading, they look like some really good radios!

now here's my question can ya buy a HH mic for these so one can hook it to your coat or shirt or is a head set even necessary?

they all look the same to me (for now)

I want something close to our ears so we can hear each other and that works good sending & receiving.......which one would you pick if you were going to buy one of these? Wink

I wouldn;t pick a Hand Held Mic......If I were going to do that I would get one of those surveillance types with the curled up clear tube.....That in my opinion would be more practical.

BTW: before I go buying something i might not need ....how loud are the speakers on the Motorola's anyways? can ya hear pretty good while riding, the deal is we want to talk and stay in control of the Quad as much as possable ....if ya follow me and we would be less likely to drop the 2-way......like I did my NEW GPS!....LOL

hahahaha......but I don't want to look like electric computer guy either, not that I really care but I want it to be practicable as you said!

Just depends on conditions. I have mine mounted on the wheeler in front of me on the Airbox Cover. You cannot hear it while driving without a Headset of some kind. Not sure about Motorola but I would say they are the same.

If you don't want to loose things off the wheeler while riding like your GPS, I suggest you come up with a mounting option of your own design for the Radio. A Ram Mount is the best for GPS.

I will try and take a picture of my mount for my radio tomorrow. What I basically did was took the Belt Clip off, drilled to small holes in the mount and airbox cover and got me some Stainless Steel 8/32 bolts and lock nuts. Screwed it on the cover. Then all I have to do is clip the radio onto the belt clip on the Airbox Cover. It stays put right in front of me.

Thanks for your time Rooster, just trying to spend Wisely, as far as the Garmin I already got a Ram Mount for it, as dan told me, mount low in case of rollover (like not up on the handle bars and what not!)

just trying to use connon sense with these products as far a riding with a group One 2-way is all we would need but Lisa & me ride alone a lot so ....its nice to bug the ole'lady while riding and not have to stop to point out views......... or "SQUIRREL" type things! (Grin)

Again Thanks!
