Source: The Newport Plain Talk

NEWPORT--Cocke County Mayor Vaughn Moore has scheduled a public meeting to address proposed Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Trails in Cocke County.

The meeting is set for Monday, Jan. 3, at 5 p.m. in the Circuit Courtroom of the Cocke County Courthouse.

"Off-Highway recreation has become a nationally accepted outdoor activity which can bring long range benefits relating to economic and community growth, healthy physical outdoor activity for a broad range of ages, physical abilities and interest, and enjoyment and appreciation for the natural and cultural resources of Cocke County," said Moore.

For more details, please see the latest edition of the Newport Plain Talk.

Thanks Rooster. I am going to keep a close eye on this and hope to make the next meeting if I can.

I will try to make this one as well. Anyone in Knoxville or coming from west of Knoxville is welcome to park at my house and ride the rest of the way with me. Just let me know.

Somewhat of an old thread... but I lived in Cocke county for a while. Worked on tha new 25 W bridge then worked on the retaining wall/ road widening project to Gatlinburg. Ahh memories.

I'd hope so the terrain looked very promising.

I always wanted to do a run along the French Broad River when the lake part is down.

It's still in the works but has met a few obstacles. The mayor and a few others went to Nashville and one of the issues that no one really knew about was evidently one of the old logging paths was at one time an actual state road, if I remember correctly, and atv's can't be on state roads, of course it was probably someone that's against it that brought it up. The way they spoke at the meeting there where several small hurdles. I did not make it to the last meeting so I'm not sure what's going on right now. The land they are looking at putting the OHV area on is part of the Martha Sundquist forest and would span about 3000 acres.
