PostSubject: Warn Winch Question   Fri Oct 07, 2011 10:24 pm

about to buy a new Warn RT30 Rugged Terrain Winch, can anybody tell me of their made of all metal?

my last one had metal planetary gears, but the cover or the Gears that the planetary gears fit into was crappy plastic, I don't want to make the same mistake again......also is their a Better Warn winch than the RT30 in a 3000lb

one last thing it's going to cast me $361 their on sale right now (or so they say) if you know of a site that sells this Winch cheaper please let me know!

Thanks
Glide

PS: Sorry for the silly sound questions, been a bit under the weather and just not feeling well!

My suggestion is you look at the Viper Winches before you make a decision. Cheaper and more cluck for the buck. Viper is the original and Venom is a spin off when some the employees decided to start their own company. I and several riders that I know have the Vipers and they are well made. You should be able to get one for alot less then 361 and with a Synth Rope as well. Synth Rope is proven and the way to go.

The Link to their Viper Max Model. Should be all you need. Check out all you get with it too.

yea I thought about a Viper, but I'm just flat frustrated.....I don't care about the cost IFI am going to get my moneys worth....sure I would like to get one as cheap as possible, but after this "Stinking ProMark/Gorilla" eating the line every time Ive used it last time was a almost dead stright ahead pull and it still jumped the Spool...it was about a 5 foot pull......Geezzzz Man those things are Junk!

also I am totally convinced that the Syn is stronger than steel, but Ive never heard of a Steel cable getting eat by the spool......Long story short I'm Fairly upset at the moment & Sick.....LOL!

I just want the thing to work proper when I push the button....and I "think" Warn is going to deliver that if anybody can....But trust me I really don't wanna spend $1 on another winch, but gotta have one!

BTW : Thanks for your feedback guys.......I'm just in a dark place right now!

I just went and looked at Viper again.....in my attempt to listen to calmer heads, but basically it's the same winch as ProMark...Plastic!

if you look at parts 6 & 12 the blue bushings/bearings Ive had to replace those 2 times thus far on the promark and only use it 4 times and "these look Just like the promark parts"

Aww maybe after sleeping ill have a clear head & lower Blood pressure.. (only Joking) Wink

I replied to you PM...actually sent you two. So part # 6 & 12 are plastic on your Promark? Promark use to be Gorilla Winches. The owner is on Mudbog.net forum a lot. Some guys on that forum have had a lot of issue's with them as well. I only buy Venom/Xtreme winches anymore. Had them on 4 outta my last 5 atv's...they stay under water and it the mud a lot and not ever had one issue.

Sounds like a good deal mark, but i think this place has yours beat.

I had a venom in my old 400 outlander. It was fine for what i needed( but back then I wasn't going as many new untamed places as i am now.)

Some have good luck with the cheaper winches, some have luck with the name brands.

Thanks for the feedback Gents....in the last Few months I have been looking at some of the cheaper winchs Very closely, and right down to the castings (all plastic so far) I would just about swear their all coming out of the same company or maybe 2 company's!

Even Warn is on the take, if you go look at the spec's of their 2500 & 3000 (RT) the only thing I can find different is the Price & the sticker on the front......kinda sad, but it's their for anybody to read!

anyways I had a $$$ set back got to buy tires for the boss's truck so I got to wait a few weeks, Thanks for the PM's and help everybody has offered!
