PostSubject: Where to go for 3-4 day trip with the girlfriend?   Mon Apr 02, 2012 9:33 pm

We want to take the fourwheelers on a trip the week of July 4th, but I'm not sure where would be the best place to take her.

I would like to rent a small cabin to stay 2 or 3 nights in and ride. She is pretty new to riding, but she has my old '04 Foreman and has taken it from the Sequatchie end of the cove to the church and up/down Rockhouse hill with only a couple small problems. So, maybe nothing SUPER extreme but we don't want to ride miles of gravel highways either, LOL!

Any suggestions guys? I'm leaning towards Royal Blue right now, I would like somewhere there that allows night riding and doesn't require helmets.

Well, even though windrock dosent promote night riding, you can ride at night so i have been informed. Helmets are not required either unless it is for anyone under 18, then it is required state-wide.

Windrock has cabins, and campgrounds. I would call asap to reserve one or a bed & Breakfast close by.

So you think Windrock would be a better trip? I've been there once, it was a long time ago on a sport quad and I don't remember much about it.

Night and early morning riding is hard to beat in the summer time...

You might find the trail conditions more suited for your GF at Royal Blue. They keep their trails pretty smooth on the East Side where the Campground is located. July 4th Weekend you might have trouble getting a place to stay anywhere.

Windrock Park has some new cabins they just built that will be opening this week. Their website is http://www.windrockpark.com

Thanks for the info, I figured that weekend would be packed everywhere so we are planning to go during the week.

I would much rather spend a few days camping in the cove, but it was made clear to me that indoor plumbing is a requirement. LoL!

If you want to take a road trip, Hatfield McCoy is great although a helmet is required.

I was considering that, but the cost of two helmets would probably pay most of our lodging for the trip. LOL!

They rent them for a couple of dollars a day.

There are cheap helmets out there, Just look around. But in the summer, and if you're riding slow, should be able to ride without a helmet anywhere. That's my opinion. I wear one 99% of the time. Most of the places i have rode make you wear helmets.

Now you could try for Pickett State Forest and stay in a bed & Breakfast up there or maybe there are some cabins up that way for rent.

Rooster, Phil, Bootlegger? any you guys know any places up that ways?

Great info guys, how does Pickett compare to RB? This is new to me since we always ride local.

Pickett is unmaintained Trails. So the skinny is "It is what it is". Another words for a beginner rider it might be a little over whelming. But in alot of peoples opinion, it is some of the best riding around.

You all would be okay at Coal Creek if you wanted to go there to ride. I can give you some good routes to take up there on the trails to have a good ride. You might like to check out the new cabins they have just completed up there. They are top notch really nice.

Virtual Tour of New Cabins at Windrock Park. These new cabins are located at the Main Campground at Coal Creek OHV Area in Oliver Springs.
