Ron, I might be up for this ride, if these 80 year-old bones will take it . . .

Would we take off from Blackhouse Mtn. Rd. and ride over to the store, or meet at the store ?

I'd have to get my GPS cranked up to get to the store by road . . .

Better get some oil on the red propellor -- been a while since it was cranked up . . .

I'll be at The Store Saturday morning, Sept. 1st, around 8:30 or 9 CST and will ride, provided it is wet enough -- there ain't no way I'm riding Pickett when the dust is 6" deep . . .

Leonard,

Just so you are aware, this is not a Guided Ride. This is an attempt to speak with Carl at the store. He is the one person up there that is trying to get the Lease and Information together and gel the group of riders together. I know it is a long haul for you and would love to have you. Just wanted to make sure you understand what it is I am trying to accomplish with getting all the riders in front of Carl to answer the questions between us.

I know, Ron, it's just that I thought someone said something about riding Labor Day and Carl showing us where the leases are and which trails would be impacted, etc . . .

I think Betty and I might take a run up to Sunnybrook this Thursday and maybe eat a sammitch with Carl and ask a question or two . . .

I've never been to The Store by road, but according to Google Earth, Caney Creek Road turns right just past Pall Mall and runs up toward Sunnybrook, so the distance looks about the same as when we meet at Blackhouse Mtn.

What's the feeling about WATVC getting involved in Pickett ?

We already have the umbrella of a 501-C-3, so that hurdle is taken care of -- I beieve there might be a few WATVC members willing to pony up $100 for "adjunct" Pickett membership -- something to think about . . .

Well I have not asked that question to the Club yet. This stuff just came up and in order to have a Club conversation, we need more facts. With your wisdom and going thru the early stages of the WATVC formation You are just the person to ask the right question to Carl. He may or may not be in favor as he might be wanting to put together something on his own so he can control it, but you can figure that out by talking to him.

To get to the store, going outside of Pall Mall on HWY 127 you will come to a store on the right hand side. The name of the store is Forbus General Store.

Turn right at that store and follow that road and once you cross into KY it will turn into HWY 200. Store is about 1-2 miles inside the state line.

One of the Jeep Club Members posted this on their site today......

P&K wrote:
I spoke with "Carl" this afternoon and it doesn't sound very hopeful that anything will progress any time soon with the land use issues. He said there are major problems with the Agreement that would have to be signed (too many restrictions).

Carl wil post an update on the KOR website when he knows more.

Betty and I are still planning on riding up to the General Store at Forbus tomorrow, and while we're that close, it'd be no problem to run on up to Sunnybrook . . .

Meet & howdy with Carl, sorta show the flag, as it were . . .

Well since there is nothing to talk about since Carl is giving up I see no reason to travel up there to meet.

Leonard,

Since you are still planning on going up, might be good to find out or get a copy of the requirements for the lease that Carl said he could not live with. Give us your assessment of the situation as far as the lease goes.

Jason sent me a jpg of the Property Value Assessors arial photo and property map. While this is very inaccurate and not suitable as a conveyance description, I was able to find enough landmarks to do an estimated overlay of the property lines onto my map data. I have not verified this data and I do not know that this is even the property in question.

Here is a screen capture jpeg of that result...

Is the covered area the part that will be closed?

Not a wasted trip, exactly, but the Sunnybrook Sandwich Shoppe being closed when I got there at noon, with no one there except a short-legged dog, didn't exactly give me the benefit of finding out very much about the "problem" . . .

Sorry about not being able to help more . . .

This sign there said parking was $4 "per unit" -- does that mean that a pick up truck and a trailer with a 4-wheeler on it is 3 "units" ?

Distance, for anyone interested, is 50 miles from I-40, up 127 to Caney creek Road, and thence to Carl's place . . .
