i havent been a member for very long. also i am kinda new to atv riding and finding places to ride is more work than keep my atv running. i was hopeing that sombody on here might have some advice for me. me and my buddys have been rideing at pickett and love it but its looking like that might be short lived.is there any place close to somerset ky. that a person can ride. i know about the big places down south but i would like to find a place to go ride close to home. for those quik afternoon rides.when we just want to ride a few hours after work.

There are tons of places right across the line into Ky. Check out the area around Harlan.
Wayne Co, KY. London KY. Also check out Martins Fork WMA. I am telling you places that I would go if I were heading that way and places that area on my long, long list of places I want to explore. I'd have to live several lifetimes to see and do all that I want to.

I also buy up those DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer maps. You can find them for each state in gas stations, but the easiest way is to get on Amazon.com and order the ones you need. I keep a collection of them for VA, TN, KY, NC, SC.

Learn to read a topo map and read it well.
Look for the unpopulated areas in green without lots of roads.

When I go to an area to vacation I research it thoroughly online first.
I want to know what's there. Then I follow that wander thirst to
where it leads me while I'm there.

I've had some AWESOME good luck by doing so.

And sometimes a run in with some local color and/or the Po Po.

thank you for the insight. the problem i have here in kentucky is that the forest department does not allow any atvs anywhere but a coulple of places that are only a few milws long. I have already had to pay one small fine ($75.00) the big fines can run up to ($500.00). so i guess i am a little scared of just takeing off some where and rideing without knowing for sure its leggal.

Are all vehicles banned or just atvs? I bought a tag for my Rhino just to avoid that issue.
