PostSubject: Best Tires for Rhino   Fri Sep 07, 2012 10:16 am

Looking for some new tires for the Rhino. Wanted to get Bighorns, but I'm being told they aren't offered in the size I need. Any suggestions for something similar?

What size are you looking for?

You could always go with the GBC Dirt Tamers. The tread design is almost identical to the Big Horn. My dad runs these on his Foreman so I've seen them perform first hand and I can say I'm impressed (mainly because he's pulled me out of a jam several times now).

You'll probably have to step on to 9" wide in the front. I have 26x9 and 26x12 Bighorns on my Ranger and love them.

I ran those on my Foreman, they are a great tire. But I think on a heavier machine, a radial might be worth the extra money.

a lot of rhinos are using the Grim reapers. They are 8 ply and so far handle about as good as the Bighorns and dirt tamers. But i'm running BH 2.0 In the 26", and they handle everything i have thrown at them except deep mud. So i stay out of the deep mud when i can. For just trail riding andoccasional road riding you can't beat the durability and handling of radial tires. Especially the BH's.

I can tell you what NOT to get. Don't put the Big Horns or Dirt Tamers on a Rhino. The Rhino will not spin the mud out of the lugs and on wet trails it will be come slick and just sit there and spin. It has happened to me several times and usually when you need the traction the most.

I also have Dirt Tamer's on my Ranger XP at work. Although a long lasting tire it is not a Radial and they ride a little rough.

Check out the ITP Blackwater Evolution. As soon as my front wheels get here, I will be putting them on the Rhino and taking the Big Horn's off.

Ouch, I would have never thought my little Ranger could do something that a Rhino can't.

Good to know Rooster. Thanks for the feedback. It has Mudlites on it now (that's what was on it when I bought it) , but I don't like them....seems like I don't get good traction sometimes ...like you say when I need it most.

I would like to try a set of those Evolution's as well.

Big Red Don has a point here. George put some BuzzSaw's on his Rhino. Now they sling some dirt when diggin but they do dig. And they are cheaper than the Evolutions or BH's.

The Rhino's are geared lower and they don't spin the tires fast enough. Top Speed on a Stock Rhino is 40-42 mph.

In that case, the Evolutions might be a good choice.

My Rhino slings mud just fine from the 25" Bighorns. I have a JBS sheave, don't know if that makes a difference or not.
