PostSubject: Suzuki Vinson   Thu Apr 17, 2008 7:40 am

I bought this 2004 Vinson used it's a 500cc. I have managed to change the oil and filter on my own. What other maintenance issues should I be concerned with, that I can perform.

When I get a little money saved up I will buy the service manual but for now I am looking for some tips from everyone.

I really wanted to know if there are any grease fittings I should be doing too.

Thanks

Ron Shocked

How often would you do the Front and Rear Diff Oil. This machine has about 400 miles on it.

Clean or change the air filter, maybe the front and rear end lubricants depending on the miles or history of the machine. Im not familier with Suz but there has to be some fittings on the front a-arms and rear arms if its IRS machine. The Boot prob knows more on Suz. Thumb

I think all there is to do on those is oil and filter and the air filter. I think all the bushings are sealed. you could lube the cables (throttle, brake, choke, ect.) You only need to do the diffs once a year unless they're under water or mud alot.

Yeah I went out and looked all aroung it today. Could not find a grease fitting anywhere. I was asking because I have a squeak when moving forward or reverse somewhere up front. It doesn't happen all the time just sometimes. I was thinking something needed lubricated. I will ride this weekend and see if it goes away or gets worse. Not sure of the history of this machine. It is a 2004 model with only 400 miles.

I change my motor oil atleast every 300 miles unless its ditry looking and then i change it sooner. Mine has 420 miles on it and i have changed the front & rear diff twice. THe first 200 to 400 miles you need to IMO. Just to get all the break in shavings and what not out then after that change the diffs about 500 miles. I will change my rear more becasue it has a sealed Wet brake and it only costs $4. Oil is always cheaper then repares. If you need any help Rooster let me know.

BTW, the new name is cool Cool

Your really only supose to change them at the first service 10 hours or 150 to 200 Miles. (break in) Then I thinks it's like every 1,500 miles after that. Maybe wrong on the miles...can't remeber what it said. I just want to make sure I get all the new Shavings out. The Front & Rear Diff oil that comes in any new ATV is a different weight than 80W-90 what most ATV's call for. It's a a thinner Oil so the gears wear a little to break in correctly. I will change the rear about every 500 cause of the Wet break and it only costs $3.95 to do it. Wink

I do want to day one thing about Suzuki oil. Not just saying this either casue i have one. I always have used Yamalube oil in every ATV and Motorcycle I have ever owned casued I have always been told how good it was....and it is good oil...justs gets dirty quick after about 200 miles or so. I have put 210 miles on the Suzuki motor oil and it looks just like i chaged it. Thumb I believe i'll keep using it. I just have to find a cross refernce for a Purolator pure one filter.

I dont know the history on my machine either so I dont know what has been done to it. I prob should check it out co co I havent had any major probs with it yet but it dies on me a lot when I let off the gas. On another note, where is a good place in Crossville to have the oil changed in my truck?

I like going to the Quick Lube places because they check all the Fluids and Top then off. I go to the Penzoil Place next to Walmart.

I use to go to Shadden's until they forgot to tighten the lug nuts on one of the wheels of my vehicle and then another time they broke the Computer Sensor on the wife's car that monitors the tire pressure.,
